【报告简介】Two topics will be addressed in this talk. The first is the development of super-resolution microscope based on microsphere. The second is the development of Kelvin probe force microscopy forfundamentalstudy ofnano materials.  

    It has been proven for almost 10 years that microsphere can provideopticalimage withsuper resolutionbeyonddiffractionlimit. However, such technology has not yet been commercialized due to a few unavoidable obstacles. In this talk, I will demonstrate how we circumvent these obstacles and develop the first affordable commercial product, which will have a great potential in the research of biology, materials, as well as semiconductor devices.
     Surface potential profiling by Kelvin probe force microscopy (KPFM) has evolved into an effective characterization technique to studyelectronicproperties of materials and to electrically characterize devices. However, the resolution and accuracy of KPFM are limited because the KPFM measurement is a weighted result of the surface potential in a fairly large area. More accurately, the KPFM measurement is a convolution of the surface potential distribution of the sample with a point spread function (PSF) of the KPFM system. To improve the resolution and accuracy of KPFM, we have experimentally calibrated the PSF and then we can restore a more accurate KPFM measurement through de-convolution with the calibrated PSF.  In this talk, I will also introduce how to study the electronic properties of nanomaterials by KPFM and how to reveal the charge transfer mechanism of nanomaterials through KPFM characterization.


【报告人简介】Guangyong Li is currently an associate professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA. He received thePh.D.degree in Electrical Engineering from Michigan State University, East Lansing, in 2006. His current research interests include scanning probe microscopy; nanodevices and biosensors;modeling, simulation, and characterization of solar cells; micro/nano roboticsystems.  He has published more than 50 papers in journals and 70 papers in conference proceedings.Dr.Li and his co-authors received the 2006 IEEE Transactions on Automation Science and Engineering Best Paper Award. He served as the IEEE Nanotechnology Council Vice President for Conferences (2017-2018) and for Technical Activities (2014-2015).Dr.Li chaired the 17th IEEE International Conference on Nanotechnology, July 25-28, 2017, Pittsburgh and is serving as the program chair of the 19th International Conference on Nanotechnology, July 22-26, 2019, Macau, China.
